Remarks

Refund policy Tuition fees are paid in advance instalments, one semester at a time. Refunds may be granted, e.g. if a residence permit application is denied (Migration Agency decision must be submitted) or if the applicant declines the place before the mandatory roll call. Refunds may be partial - certain processing fees are non-refundable (SEK 5,000). After the roll call, the tuition fee for the current semester is non-refundable; approved leave of absence does not entitle a refund (fee is valid for a later semester); no refund is granted for rejected residence-permit applications for distance-learning pro
Visa refusal policy Students from outside the EU/EEA require a residence permit to study at LiU. The tuition fee must be paid before applying for the residence permit, and LiU advises starting the paperwork as soon as you are admitted. If you can show that you meet the maintenance requirement for two years you can apply for a two-year residence permit. A comprehensive health insurance is required; students who have paid their tuition fee are covered by the Swedish state's FAS+ insurance plan, which the Swedish Migration Agency is informed about. New 2026 regulations limit paid work alongside studies.

Requirements, fees and deadlines shown here are the ones our counsellors work from, but the university can change them at any intake. We confirm the live figures with the institution before an application is filed, so treat this page as the starting point rather than the final word.
